There is a theory floating around about transgenderism actually being an intersex condition that affects the brain rather than the body. This is due to the idea that the body develops one way in utero and the brain develops the other way. If I hypothetically received a brain transplant, I would no longer be Valentine, but I would take on the traits of the person whose brain I received. Since our consciousness and sense of identity is widely assumed to be rooted in the brain, the only viable alternative transition seems to be rewiring the parts of the brain that are responsible for causing the dysphoria. However, our current level of neuroscience will not enable that to take place safely and effectively.
