The Bible was not written in a vacuum. It was influenced complex social, political, and cultural dynamics of the time. If the Bible were written today, it would be a vastly different book. Would some values translate over to today? Absolutely, but they wouldn't be conveyed in the same way as they were in ancient Israel, Greece, or Rome.

Biblical modesty is also closer to humility than it is to not showing skin or wearing certain types of clothes.
