It’s not like we had any previous pandemics to learn from. Oh, wait. We did.

Pastor Rick Wiles of the Flowing Streams Church in Florida claimed that COVID-19 is God’s “death angel” and blamed transgender kids, the content of today’s entertainment, and China’s “godless communist government” for what he views as “divine judgment”. In a clip posted by Right Wing Watch, he calls COVID-19 is a “genuine plague” and goes on to blame “forced abortion” in China and “sexual immorality” in the rest of the world for the pandemic.

In another clip from Right Wing Watch, Wiles blamed the death of a senior lawyer from the LGBT Bar Association, a group said to “sue churches” and “ministries”. Wiles uses this death as a call to “get under the blood of Jesus Christ” through converting to Christianity. Similar themes occur in other instances, such as when Wiles claimed that the spread of COVID-19 in synagogues was due to Jews rejecting Jesus as the Messiah. More recently, TruNews, a news site that Wiles hosts, reported that the SARS-Cov-2 virus (the virus that causes COVID-19) originated in a bio lab in Wuhan and was spread by a lab intern’s girlfriend who later went to the wet market.
